Mostar Tourist Quality Project
The Tourist Quality Project, whose aim is to improve the quality of what can be offered to tourists in the area of Mostar, is a part of an even more ambitious project, the “Stari Most”, which is the result of a collaboration between the Municipalities of Florence and Mostar, the Province of Pisa and the Canton of Herzegovina-Neretva.
The achievement of high quality standards on behalf of local activities and businesses that work in Mostar’s tourist field, signifies not only the improvement of everybody’s competences, thus increasing their market competitiveness, but also a growth in terms of the satisfaction shown by tourists who visit this area.
The Tourist Quality Project, apart from making local tour operators aware of techniques and international experience related to local quality labels, is centred on the survey and on the control of the various requirements for basic, sound quality, which is so important for international clients and which involves all receptive frameworks: restaurants, tourist agencies, and typical craft shops in the Mostar area.
The need to begin a procedure towards tourist qualification has been underlined by tour operators themselves as a way of highlighting their own work in a constantly developing field that is more and more competitive. Over the past few years, the city of Mostar has been creating and developing its new tourist proposals, and all of the people involved, from council workers to local entrepreneurs, are now working to increase the quality of tourist reception facilities and the satisfaction tourists derive from it. Their ultimate goal is to build, together with the support of their Italian partners, a competitive tourist system in line with European standards and with consumers’ rights.
The companies that have participated in the Tourist Quality Project have had to go through many tests and controls, as well as fulfil many requirements; only then, in the case of a positive result, have they obtained the Quality Label: this is a clearly visible sign for tourists to understand the work that has been carried out toward the improvement of a welcome offer given to tourists, besides standing as a symbol of high quality.
Five different types of quality labels are foreseen for the various tourist sectors: typical craft shops; hotels; Motels and B&B’s; restaurants; tourist agencies.
Each type of business has different specific requirements to fulfil according to a precise work plan.
In this phase, the work of tour operators has turned mainly to the definition of the quality requirements and to the hard work involved in company programmes for self-improvement. The overall aim is to create a system of synergic collaboration between professional operators, local council workers, tourists, even with the aid of advice given by clients themselves, in order to make Mostar a quality destination for tourists in the widespread panorama of European tourism.
