Glavatičevo

It would be a real shame to visit Herzegovina and not pass by Glavatičevo (about 98 km from Mostar), a small but welcoming village in the heart of the uncontaminated nature that surrounds the Boračko Lake and which the Neretva River furrows. In this region, the river creates truly romantic canyons in its upper course, with breathtaking landscapes opening up to the visitor’s eyes: harsh gorges, mysterious pinewoods, wonderful flowers and wild habitats. Instead, in its lower part, there are limpid pools of water surrounded by small beaches, cottages, inns and various services which offer tourists every convenience and every possible outdoor activity: swimming, excursions in small boats, rafting, fishing and peaceful sunbathing. Near Glavatičevo, there are hundreds of admirable stećci, the typical tombstones of Bogomili (an ancient population which lived in these lands in the Middle Ages), which are characterized by a fascinating symbolism and by inscriptions in bosančica, the antique Cyrillic-Bosnia language.
